Lakes State SPLM-IO faces mass defection, key members return to SPLM Party

A seismic shift in Lakes State politics as key figures including MPs, ministers, and commission heads defect back to the SPLM party, shaking up the political landscape

A defection has rocked the SPLM-IO party in Lakes State, as several key members have crossed back to the SPLM party. The defection, announced yesterday, March 14th, 2024, by the Information Secretary of Lakes State SPLM Secretariat, includes prominent figures from various levels of government.

Among those who have defected are members of parliament such as Poth Madit Dut, Dr. John Sebit Madit, and Akuc Majier Manyiel. Additionally, several ministers, including Beny Matur Mathiang for Peacebuilding, Abraham Ater Mabor for Animal Resources, Fisheries, and Tourism, and Philip Taban Chiir for Cooperative and Rural Development, have defected to SPLM party.

Moreover, key positions in independent commissions have been affected, with individuals like Malok Makoi Bol and Lino Akum Ngor, assuming chairmanship roles. Notably, Laat Mathiang Bol has shifted from the position of Deputy Chairperson of Anti-Corruption.

The defections also extend to members of the state parliament, with names like Makuei Bec Makuei, Zachariah Maker Mabor, and Martha Aluet Marial among those who have returned to the SPLM party.
