Kenyan footballer ditches national team for South Sudan

Midfielder Charles Ouma of Kenya will bring his talent to the South Sudan Bright Stars for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, after switching allegiance due to a bench role with the Harambee Stars, showcasing his potential from his roots at Sindo United to Kenya Police FC.

Kenya Police FC midfielder Charles Ouma will join the South Sudan Bright Stars for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sao Tome and Principe.

Ouma, 20, was selected to join the Kenyan national team, the Harambee Stars, but was kept on the bench.

Although he didn’t play any game for his national team, his potential led him to switch allegiance to South Sudan.


Ouma’s football journey began at Sindo United before joining Kenya Police in 2020.

The South Sudanese squad includes four other Kenyan-based players: Toha Rashid and Tito Okello from Kenya Police, Assad Musa from AFC Leopards, and Paul America Jawa from Rainbow FC.
