The President of the Republic of South Sudan has urged the business community and the people of South Sudan in general to respect the rule of law in order to woo investors in the country.
In a statement from both the Presidency and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation upon the President’s arrival from United Arab Emirates (UAE) yesterday.
His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit said that all South Sudanese should know that they are agents of economic and social transformation.
“Our culture and rule of law must function together to safeguard the interest of investors and the ordinary citizens of South Sudan,” Kiir said.
H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit visited the UAE from February 18 – 23, 2022, at the invitation of the UAE Government where he inaugurated the celebration of South Sudan National Day at the Expo 2020 Dubai.
According to the statement, The President did admit the lacking investment environment in the country and what he wants done about it.
“The President wants to make it clear to his Government and the South Sudanese business community that success in this phase of economic liberation requires us to build conditions within South Sudan that do not currently exist. South Sudan must ensure that any dollar invested from outside or within receives respect and care so that investors know we are a place and people of integrity, where they are protected,” reads part of the statement.
The statement also stated that this war of economic liberation is the major priority of the Sudanese People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) after achieving relative peace in the country.
H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit also held bilateral meetings with the leaders of United Arab Emirates and the business community.
“I will continue to engage countries worldwide to bring investments to help South Sudanese emerge from war into sustained, broad-based, and inclusive economic growth. Countries like the UAE and others are expressing interest in providing such investment” concluded the President.
