Controversial activist Animu Athiei is finally out on bail after two months of detention. Her lawyer, Anyang Phillip confirmed her release to talk of Juba this morning and says there is no fixed date for her to appear in court.
The Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Immigration had detained her at Juba main Prison for an alleged illegal acquisition of diplomatic credentials.
“One of her bail terms is that she should not travel beyond the borders of South Sudan,”Anyang said.
Animu Athiei who is also known as Afekuru Animu Risasi to others was appointed as a Member of Parliament in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly under the Other Political Parties (OPP) ticket representing Lujule Payam of Morobo County before President Salva Kiir revoked her appointment, replacing her with Hon. Joseph Lual Achuil from Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) in Government.
Attempts to deport her to Uganda after arrest were futile as Ugandan authorities had refused to receive her.
