Kiir appoints new Minister of Mining

President Salva Kiir on Wednesday evening issued a decree appointing Martin Obucha Gama as the new Minister of Mining.

Little is known about the new minister.

Martin replaces Henry Odwar who resigned in August and later declared allegiance to SPLM-IO breakaway faction led by General Simon Dual.


The Mining docket belongs to SPLM-IO as dictated by the revitalized peace agreement.  Mining Ministry had remained vacant for nearly 4 months pending nomination of the new minister by the SPLM-IO chairman, Riek Machar.
