University of Juba discontinues hundreds of students

The students who have been discontinued will not now carry on with their studies and have to wait home for another two years before resuming studies at the university.

The University of Juba, a public higher institution of learning in South Sudan, has discontinued hundreds of students from different faculties for failing examinations in their last two semesters.

The decision by the university administration has been received with mixed reactions online, many, however, are in favour of the decision.

“This is an acceptable approach to tighten up the procedures since most of the secondary examination are leaked out which leads to malpractice and high performance in secondary schools final exams. In my opinion, we should increase the CGPA til SSCSE makes sense,” replies Majang Chien in a tweet.

“You made a very good decision that will help a lot, I was surprised when I saw students at the University of Juba never have time to read and still be getting distinctions,” says another.

This latest move by the University of Juba comes amid citizens’ call for stiff measures to curb alleged mass cheating in South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations.
