Two more aid workers have been killed in the restive Lake State on Monday evening. Two others survived the shooting unhurt.
According to a source, Maker Mayual, a clinical officer working for a local NGO, CUAM in Yirol and Gulung Werwer, a driver were killed after their vehicle was stopped by armed men near Aluak-Luak Payam and immediately sprayed with bullets.
The humanitarian workers were returning from Mabiordit and Agany villages where they had delivered critical medical supplies to Primary Health Care Centres (PHCCs) in the two areas on Monday morning.
Maker Mayual was a brother to SSBC journalist Mathiang Joseph. Nothing was stolen from the aid workers after the deadly incident.
The motive of the killings is not known while the killers remain at large.
The incident marked the third killing of an aid worker in South Sudan in 2021. In May two aid workers were killed in separate incidents in Budi County, Eastern Equatoria and Ganyiel Payam, Panyijar County in Unity State. Nine aid workers were killed in 2020.
