Cabinet Affairs Minister Martin Elia has said his COVID-19 results were negative.
The Minister came out to publicly debunk rumours that have circulated on social media last evening that he was among the Taskforce Committee members who are tested positive for COVID-19.
“Yesterday, 18th May, 2020, the South Sudan Public Health Laboratory confirmed my test results as COVID-19 negative,” the minister said in a statement seen by Talk of Juba.
On Monday First Vice President Riek Machar announced in a televised statement that he and his wife Angelina Teny were tested positive. According to Riek, some of his staff, bodyguards and defunct Taskforce members were also tested positive.
He couldn’t however disclose the names of senior officials tested positive of the virus.
Riek was the deputy chairman of the now reconstituted national Taskforce on Coronavirus. He deputized President Kiir.
The new Taskforce is now headed by Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi.
