The head coach of the national football team, Cyprian Ashu has made it clear that the team has what it takes to make it to the next stage in the qualifiers of the 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
Bight Stars registered a 2-1 win over Seychelles in the first leg match of the preliminary rounds played on Wednesday in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum. The return leg tie will be played on Sunday in Victoria, Seychelles.
“We have to qualify for the group stage of the qualifiers. I know it will be a tough game away in Seychelles, but we are preparing for every situation,” said the coach who registered his first victory since taking charge of the team few months ago.
The coach said his team must learn to control the game more and also take the chances created. “In football it is always important to take your chances because that really counts. We must work on a few things ahead of the return leg,” added the coach.
The coach will hope that Koang Thok and Joseph Kuch who scored in the first leg have more higher appetite to knock in more goals in Victoria.
The winner between South Sudan and Seychelles over two legs will join Burkina Faso, Uganda and Malawi in Group B of the qualifiers in the group stage. The group stage of the qualifiers kicks off on November 11th.
The group stage will have a total of 48 teams drawn into 12 groups of four teams (from Group A to Group L). The 2021 Afcon will take place in Cameroon.
