President Kiir has said that the hike in the amount of tuition fees paid by students in public university has been cancelled effective immediately.
The president made the remarks during a speech to mark the commencement of National Dialogue today.
Last week the cabinet had opposed the National Budget for the fiscal year 2016/ 2017 over contentious issues including raising public universities’ education fees.
Government Spokesperson, Michael Makuei Lueth says the budget imposes too high tuition payments for university students.
The cabinet has directed the concerned ministries of higher education and finance to address the disagreement before presenting the approved budget for signing by the president.
