South Sudan's rebel leader Riek Machar

Riek Machar has denied carrying a pistol to J1 in July where violence broke out. President Kiir and various government officials have accused Riek of carrying a concealed pistol on himself during a meeting with President Kiir and Vice-President James Wani Igga.

Speaking to VOA Riek said it was a “big lie”. He said that it was not his habit to carry a pistol. He said he hasn’t carried a pistol since he commanded or lead political parties in 1991.

J1 insists Riek carried a pistol into the meeting in July.
